People fail to find a sustainable daily routine. My friends and I found it difficult to maintain a routine. This led to bad sleep schedules, more stress, and less accomplishments.

This is often a problem with young adults who are trying to balance their work load with their personal life so I decided to focus on this group.

Research

Competitive Analysis

Majority of people I interviewed never tried using a product to create a routine. Those who have tried apps didn’t find it sustainable. When having users test the UI design on the current apps, it became clear to me that these apps could be time consuming when trying to create a routine.

Identifying Pain Points

Before I started creating wireframes I wanted to test out this hypothesis without the use of an app and see how my platform could help in any areas that would prove to be challenging. So with the help of a friend, we set out to accomplish our perfect routine for one week.

Writing Down Our Goals

Before we started the week we wrote down a list of what we wanted to add to our routine. This inspired me to add a feature that would easily allow users to add and edit tasks.

6 am Lift

Lifting at 6 allowed us to have the rest of the day to focus on other tasks.This task showed us the value of an accountability partner. In all honesty, I was not waking up at 6 unless I knew Oscar was also getting up. After the week ended waking up at 6 was no longer an issue.

Eliminate Procrastination

We wanted to eliminate procrastinating on our school work so we thought of ways we could do this. We came up with a rule that after classes we would get into the habit of doing homework right away. This task sparked an idea for my app — have suggestions based on what the users wants to accomplish

User Flow

I began working on a user flow for the app. This helped me decide which screens I needed to prioritize and how users would interact with the app.

Iteration 01

In Depth Tasks

Without extra information such as what book to read or what dish to cook, users saw the routines as suggestions rather than tasks to complete.

Iteration 02

Readability

By sticking with the style and utilizing color, it made it easier for users to navigate around the app. I also began taking into account type ramp which helped with the readability as well.

Style Guide

Color Overview: The color blue has shown benefits in productivity so I incorporated it into my design as it correlated with maintaining a routine.

Font Overview: The geometric style of Avenir was a good fit for my app as it ensured users can easily comprehend the content displayed.Also, the word Avenir in French translates to “future” which is a word resonates with Push.
